About me

Passion for journalism

Senada Sokollu was born in Munich, the daughter of a doctor and a medical assistant, and grew up here. She calls Munich her home. She studied political science at the Hochschule für Politik and graduated with a diploma from Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität. She also attended the Bavarian Academy for Television and trained as a television journalist with renowned journalistic lecturers such as Martin Weiss, Hans Öchsner and Friedhelm Brebeck.

Senada is an experienced journalist. Her work includes in-depth reporting on various global issues in different languages for various renowned international media houses. Her experience includes writing and conceptualizing online articles, live reporting for television, anchoring and video journalism as well as social media are among her strengths. With her many years of experience abroad and in crisis situations as a correspondent as well as the necessary knowledge of current global political and social issues, she proves her all-round package as a journalist with a lot of stamina and reliability.

While still a student at the age of 25, she began reporting from abroad, including from the ARD Studio Vienna under the direction of renowned journalists such as Susanne Glass and Thomas Morawski. During this time, she reported from Kosovo and Brussels for the ARD morning show and the ARD night show, among others. She was then part of the editorial team of the Bavarian Broadcasting Corporation.

Due to the political unrest and press censorship in Turkey, she decided to move to Istanbul in 2013. She worked there as a foreign correspondent for Deutsche Welle until 2017. Among other things, she reported on economic policy, corruption scandals, the refugee crisis from crisis areas such as the Turkish-Syrian border region and the Gezi Park protests in 2013 - the largest protests the country has experienced since its foundation. Senada is the first foreign journalist to report from and about the park. From 2017 to 2020, she worked as a reporter for Euronews and reported for the German edition of the Huffington Post. Senada took part in the Bundeswehr crisis training for journalists in Hammelburg and completed the course as the most psychologically resilient.

She is the author of a 30-minute report for the TV channel Phönix.

Since 2017, Senada has also been involved in a special social project for widowed women in Turkish villages, who gain a better quality of life and financial independence through sewing and knitting.

Senada has been working as a CVD, planner and reporter at SWR since 2021. She reports on current social issues. Since 2023 she has been working as a freelance journalist for the Handelsblatt and writes "long read" articles on international (economic) politics. In 2023, Senada moderated the 3rd Munich Poverty Conference, which was co-organized by the City of Munich.
